In cooperation with over 12 other non-profit
organizations,
O'Keefe Educational Media Group is developing this educational
multimedia
Internet Resource Center and Directory
to enhance independence and quality of life
for persons with mental and physical
disabilities.
THE GOALS
ARE:
(1)
to provide information to people with
disabilities
in the areas of recreation, group activities,
community day services, events, education,
city/county services, transportation, veteran
programs, senior programs, medical & mental
health programs, support groups, civic
clubs/churches, equipment/technology, medical
services, business/professional services and
sponsor services.
(2)
to increase opportunities for individuals
with disabilities
to
participate in physical activities such as
bowling, swimming, baseball, tennis, hunting,
table-tennis, horseback riding, sailing, golf,
water sports, soccer, driving, gymnastics,
fishing, basketball;
(3)
to supply an educational tool
for
professionals
in the fields of Disability Services, Mental
Health, Education/Research, Economic
Development & Tourism, Therapeutic Medicine
and others to give them an increased awareness
of Programs that help people with
disabilities.
(4)
to connect organizations
and resources available.
The Internet
Resource Center will represent thousands of
organizations and businesses in Mississippi and have a search engine, links,
maps, directions to travel features, a
downloadable directory, audio & video footage
features, on-line brochures, and print and
email features.
During the
next stage of development the site will have
many additional special features such as
Closed Captioning, multi-lingual language,
large text versions, text only versions, and a
community news bulletin board.
